Any way you put it, swollen feet are a common condition most people have to deal with. Before you panic, swollen feet are not a cause for concern, especially if they get that way after walking a lot.

It’s normal to have swollen feet after an entire day of standing or walking. But if you do that every day, without treating your swollen feet, then you have a problem. The pain is inevitable if not treated. Everything we do causes an action, and we need to answer that with the appropriate reaction.
However, I must point out that if swollen feet are accompanied by other symptoms, it might be a sign of a serious health problem. In that case, consult with a medical person before trying anything.

Causes of swollen feet

As I said, the most common cause of swollen feet is your lifestyle. Long standing hours at work or walking a lot are common occurrences we experience in our everyday life. However, there are other reasons that are also normal:
  • Pregnancy is a period in women’s life when swollen feet are normal. It’s just the natural way your body reacts. Your legs are under enormous pressure due to the extra weight, and they can’t hold it. Some swelling is normal during pregnancy, but if you experience severe and excessive swelling, it might be a sign of high blood pressure and protein in the urine. This condition, called preeclampsia, develops after the 20th week of pregnancy. In this case, you should consult with your doctor, especially if swollen feet are accompanied by constant headaches, abdominal pain, infrequent urination or vision changes.
  • Venous insufficiency is another condition that can cause swelling of feet and ankles; indeed, swelling of the feet is one of the first symptoms of the condition. Venous insufficiency, in which blood inadequately moves up the veins from the feet to the heart, is a sign that the valves are damaged or weakened.
  • Swollen feet can be a side effect of taking medications and drugs. Some of the medications include hormones (such as estrogen and testosterone), calcium channel blockers, blood pressure medications, steroids, antidepressants, and corticosteroids.
  • Last, but not least, blood clots are another condition that result from swollen feet and ankles. Blood clots form in the veins, stopping the return of the blood flow from the legs to the heart. Blood clots can occur in the veins beneath the skin or within the circulatory system (thrombosis). In either case, treatment is necessary.

Compress for swollen feet

If your swollen feet are the result of walking or standing the entire day, this remedy can help. The remedy will also help with swollen feet caused from more serious and severe conditions, but you should also consult a doctor. In the case of severe conditions, this solution will relieve and soothe the symptoms of swollen feet, but will not help with the root cause of the problem. Now, onto the remedy.
Ingredients:
  • 50gr (1.7 oz) white willow leaves
  • 50gr (1.7 oz) rosemary leaves
  • 50gr (1.7 oz) of nettle leaves
  • 1 liter (quart) apple cider vinegar
How to do it:
  1. Chop and crush the leaves, and then add them to the apple cider vinegar.
  2. Let the leaves sit in the solution for few days.
Start with a small dose, and then gradually get to a dosage that is good for you. You need a 1:7 apple cider vinegar solution and water ratio (water is needed to dilute the solution).
